Honda might be struggling in boosting up the sales of various variants of cars, but one model which has never let the company down is Honda CR-V. In initial years, CRV was one of the best budget SUV available in the market. People were mad about the looks and performance. The car has two engine options, one is present in the base model and other in LX and touring models. The base model LX has a 2.4-liter twin-cam direct-injected inline-four engine, similar to the Honda Accord, creating 184 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. The other models are equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that creates 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque. Models which are equipped with this engine are EX, EX-L, and Touring models.
The performance is tested on the second engine, which is present in most models and having the decent horsepower. The turbocharger present gives it a good stability at lower capacity, boosting up the horsepower. When you ride this thing, you can actually feel the power it creates from the engine. Compared to the competition, like KIA Sportage, it is slow, but for a car that has 3000-3500 pound weight (Depending upon the model), the numbers are decent. At city roads, it performs well and you can overtake and reach your destination in good time. Acceleration of the car is decent, and you can expect it to perform slightly well than previous models making it a good choice for new buyers.
The fuel efficiency of the car is comparable to its competitors and when you have such a massive car with good cabin space, it tends to decrease. Honda has worked well and given us a fair fuel economy, which can be a deciding factor for most of the customers for buying. It gives 34 miles per gallon on a highway, and 28 on city roads. With 14 gallons of fuel tank present, you have a range of 392 to 476 miles. These numbers are impressive, and leave a huge impact on the buyers.

Usually, in an automatic transmission, you feel the rubber belt thing in low RPMs, but this SUV was pretty good and gave no problems in the transmission department. Power assisted electrical steering gives you a good hold of the car. It is sensitive than ever in the CRV and due to variable ratio, feels good in the hand. It is not exactly a sporty steering, but Honda tried hard to come closer to it. While driving in a city, you can actually take advantage of increased sensitivity by taking sharp and secure turns. The reaction time increases and you can feel the smoothness in the steering. It has definitely made progress over the models of previous years. Honda improved the steering and overall driving experience by constituting to the performance and steering department.
Suspension of the car has made a progress, but the amount is so less, that it is almost insignificant. Not to tell that the previous models of the CRV had very good suspension, so it is almost same with this model. The suspensions are good, which are Strut Front Suspension along with Coil Springs and Multi-Link Rear Suspension with Coil Springs. They are balanced and responsive at the same time. You can drive through rough patches without having second thoughts about the comfort. They’re sensitive and absorb the jerk, minimize it. Being more and less the same suspensions, the car has significantly improved in other departments that it overshadows the fact that suspensions haven’t made significant progress. Though the ability to absorb and responding is good but could have been a primary advantage of buying this car.
Brakes are average, not highly impressive, but they do the job. It has 4 Wheel Disc Brakes with all Wheel ABS. The Front Vented Discs performs well and are sensitive. It takes 166 ft to stop from 70 to 0; that are decent numbers, compared to the other cars but due to weight and momentum, these numbers hold good. All wheel disc brakes are reliable, and Honda has made these brakes good enough to stop the beast. While driving, you can actually feel the smoothness of braking and its instant response when you hit the pedal. Rather than increasing the intensity, Honda has improved the sensitivity and respond time, making them very secure. The intensity as improved but the experience of applying overshadows the intensity. The application of the brakes made a serious progress, which makes it a good car to drive overall, performance, transmission, and braking wise.
From the outside, the car has masculine look, streamlined perfectly from front to back. The doors are made curved which gives it a sporty look. Headlights are long and connect to the front bumper very elegantly. Talking about the back, the taillights are merged very beautifully with small back glass, making it look compact. The build quality of the car is good and Honda has paid attention to the exterior of the car. Spoiler on the top gives it an extended look, which makes the car look more masculine. The exterior is designed well, there are no second thoughts about that.
